MAY 26, 2009

I failed to hang fliers for this month's SCP (whoops!), yet this event boasted the most attendees yet. Eleven patrons were present specifically for the event, but a half dozen other people hung around because they appreciate free wi-fi. Now and forever more. Amen.

Once again I filled in as DJ since Rene was in Canada. Honestly, I think I'm getting pretty good at it, except for when I stood up too quickly and made the needle skip like a sound effect from a bad 80's film.

The bartenders seemed to appreciate the night's music, and I appreciated the new ears who showed up (Cat, Amy, and Rob). People drank, gabbed, and stole bandwidth. What more could one want from a Tuesday night?

The set list can be found below, and photos from this meeting can be found here.

Doo Rag
Left Song / Right Song (a/k/a Two Tones To Tune)
This is the Holy Grail of Doo Rag 7"s. Instead of a Side A and B, there are two songs on Side A only, one song on the left track and the other on the right track. Oddly, I saw Bob Log III of Doo Rag last week and told him I was going to play the 7" at Skip Crackle Pop. This is the story he told me about Two Tones To Tune:
"We recorded that in Italy. The engineer didn't know what in the hell he was doing. He kept trying to put reverb on everything. Thermos [the drummer] and I fought him. We hated the experience so we recorded the songs quickly in one take. The engineer sneakily cranked up the reverb for just the last notes, and that was that. "
