JULY 28, 2009

My stupid turntable tried its hardest to ruin SCP with another buzz noise, but it lost the battle thanks to equal parts of science, muscle and tape. The event got off to a fifteen minute late start, which is just as well since attendees slowly trickled in throughout the night. The best way to grade the success of any Skip Crackle Pop event is to watch the reactions of innocent bystanders working on their laptops. Sometimes they laugh. Sometimes they groove. And tonight we can add: Sometimes they walk out to Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone."

The good news is that Kavarna employees Tyler and Walker seemed to enjoy themselves. I did, too, but I had consumed a couple of pints. It should also be noted that Kavarna has cans of PBR on the menu now, which made a least one member of the audience happy.

As for notable records, Scott stole the show with not one, not two, but FOUR amazingly obscure records from his dad's closet. I need to shake his dad's hand and buy him a can of PBR.

The set list can be found below, and photos from this meeting can be found here.

You're Going To Need Me

"I bought this on eBay when the movie Ghost World came out because I thought I was really into 78 speed records. My boss thought he ordered it because he knew about the artist. That turned me off from buying any more 78 speed records."

Danger Zone

Once the song started, a customer and his friend got up from the bar and said, "That's it man, we're out of here."

We were teased of a story about John's mom farting, but he never told it because the other people in Kavarna made him nervous.

Just trying to get the night back to normalcy.
