Skip Crackle Pop #10 may be the last. My wife and I are expecting a child next month, so I visualized tonight's event to be more of a party with party cake and party beer. I was also celebrating fifty issues of The Plug, a monthly online magazine that I produce. A very brave couple, Adam & Wendy, traveled from Columbus, Ohio to be present, but more about that in Issue #50 of The Plug. I experimented with starting SCP at 7:30, and it was a move that did not pay off. The first person who came specifically to SCP didn't show until 8:15, and she didn't bring a record. Thankfully friends and vinyl trickled in, and it led to the longest set list of the entire series. A whopping 23 records were spun, and a couple of those had two tracks played. In other words: party. The original concept for SCP was for music nerds to share stories and band knowledge. Those intentions changed for the better over the year because, let's face it, not every song you like has an interesting story or history behind it. After blabbering at the nine other SCP events, I just didn't have anything more to tell. Plus, nobody (who was present) cares about that. All we want is to socialize with friends and acquaintances while listening to a Frankenstein mixtape as our soundtrack. I realize that now. At the end of the evening, I packed up my gear. Elliot, a bartender at Kavarna, approached me and said, "Record night is our favorite night to work here. You know, you could always bring your baby to Kavarna and we could watch him." So maybe Skip Crackle Pop isn't done after all. The set list can be found below, and photos from this meeting can be found here. |
